Arkansas wildfire threat
Arkansas has a history of wildfires, in 2006 alone, during January and February there were over 60 wildfires that caused havoc with mass evacuations of residents, houses burnt to the ground and millions upon millions of dollars worth of damage inflicted. Every year, without fail, there is a wildfire outbreak, fortunately, new funds granted to Arkansas firing fighting departments under the auspices of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, have enabled the purchase of new machinery and equipment to protect the public.
Since 2000, there have been over ten thousand wildfires in the state of Arkansas, that’s an average of 1,800 fires every year. In 2009 alone, 24,000 acres of forest burnt to nothing due to hundreds of runaway fires. They’re caused by a number of factors, all of them human-induced; throwing a lit cigarette out your car window, burning garbage in the garden during the fire season, a fallen power line, or the sinister danger of arsonists.
